The Spouses are also running for Office

On the Cobb County School Board, Democratic incumbent Betty Gray will face a party challenge from David L. Morgan. Morgan is the state director for an education Political Action Committee called All Children Matter. He is married to state Rep. Alisha Thomas Morgan (D-Austell).

“I think that we have families that are chronically underserved as relates to their educational opportunities and educational experience. We have to create policy and programs that relate to their educational experience,” David Morgan said Thursday afternoon.

Anyone know of other spouses running for office?

A little googling about the All Children Matter PAC finds this on their website:

РThe mission of All Children Matter is to work for the election of public officials who are committed to the enactment of meaningful reforms to ensure that all children in America – without regard to race or family income – have equal access to a quality education. Good Mission Statement

– “A Michigan-based group that advocates vouchers and tuition tax credits is establishing itself as an emerging force in Virginia to promote school choice and education reform.

All Children Matter, a political-action committee formed last spring, spent at least $300,000 in contributions and independent expenditures such as mailings on nearly two dozen legislative campaigns this fall.

All of the recipient candidates were Republicans except for state Sen. Benjamin J. Lambert III, D-Richmond.” – Umm, not so good

– Opponents, including the Virginia Education Association, counter that such programs siphon much needed money away from public schools. – Totally Agree with VEA

Then, there’s this:

Republican PAC hit with record fine for illegal campaign contributions funneled through Virginia. “All Children Matter” funneled $445,943 to Virginia Republicans. “By raising its money in Virginia and transferring it to Ohio, the secretary of state’s office said the group essentially was laundering campaign money through a state with far looser restrictions.” Elections panel fines charter-school group $5.2 million. According to Georgia’s Ethics Website, All Children Matter PAC gave the following monies to Georgia legislators:

– Glenn Richardson – $1,000

– Jan Jones – $1,000

Is this a case of “the fox watching the hen house” kind of election?

I went to school in Amway country back in the 70’s. To them education is just like boxing, selling, and marketing soap. Very scary indeed.
