So yeah, for those of you wondering “So how DID the Columbus State Young Democrats fare down in Columbus?”, I have a little something for you. “God Bless Fort Benning” went pretty well, although we didn’t quite sell the number of tickets we needed to break even. We got A LOT more play than the cute (ok, they were less cute than us) Young Republicans next door, and NOT A SINGLE snide remark. A lot of the soldiers (and soon-to-be-soldiers) were very supportive of us, and we didn’t really get into debates on Iraq with anyone. Heck, the weirdest guy who came by was liberal, not conservative, and decided I was the one least likely to say “Ok, you are preventing me from trying to sell more of these tickets, you have to leave now.”
We also had a good time – Dionna Scharton, who is a real bona-fide NCO, had a great time busting the butts of the kids shipping off to basic – “Soldier, you need to hear about our raffle tickets!”

“And pledge to vote while you’re at it!”

We had a mock election going between Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Kennedy – Kennedy won hands down every time. Guess it’s just been too long since we last shared a drink with our dear departed friend Tom…

A lot of people signed our holiday greeting posters that will be sent to the troops (something the YR’s seem to have forgotten about)…

There were also some weird moments, such as when The Walking Puppet Show came by…

Some people thought to themselves, “Gee, I’m such a couch potato, but right here at God Bless Fort Benning, I’m gonna get a workout!”..

The “Freak of the Week” award went SQUARELY to THESE people, who I originally thought were SOA students, based on the fact that they’re 1) dressed like military dictators minus the medals, 2) their little banner is hating on the SOA protesters, and 3) they’re holding a huge flag/banner thing that looks straight like it came out of a Rage Against the Machine video (specifically Bulls On Parade). Turns out they’re just “The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property”…

And last but not least is the moment when Juliana (of ALL people!!!) won a 42″ plasma screen TV…

Super Bowl party at Juliana’s crib!!! 😉
