From the Wild Blog Supper

5:59 P.M. Ok, so Sonny’s not been spitted here at the 2008 edition of the Wild Hog Supper here at the Atlanta freight depot, but there’s been some action here nevertheless. The Grady funding protesters apparently didn’t clear their message with Big Brother, because they were asked to disperse just as I was arriving. Michelle Obama did generate a stir when she walked in not long ago…

Having her here raises my hopes that the JJ dinner will feature someone presidential in addition to our old Georgia friends.

6:24 P.M.

Quite frankly, I haven’t cared enough about who our esteemed minority leader endorses to know who that is, but given the court he seems to be holding in the middle of this thing, the answer seems clear enough…

At least one of our Senate candidates is here. I’ll have more to say about Maggie Martinez later, but at least we can be grateful she isn’t paying the homeless folks to hold signs like a *cough* certain other candidate. Bless her heart for being here, but I hope she knows what Chip Rogers looks like so she can stay the hell away from him.

6:53 P.M. An informal survey conducted by me (just as accurate as the New Hampshire polling) finds that four out of five Republicans wearing stickers or buttons support Mike Suckabee, with the fifth person unnaccountably bearing a Fred08 lapel pin, of all things. The only person who makes Dead Fred look young is our own friend John Kerry, for crying out loud.

Our 2008 Senate nominee decided to stop in, as well. Anyone know that Counting Crows song, “Mr. Jones”? “Mister Jones and me, we’re gonna be big stars…” No sign of Rick Wrong these days, incidentally. Anyone know what he’s up to? Coming up with some new stories, I hope.

Speaking of “friends”, I decided to grab a couple of photos of some of my pals from Cobb County. Judy Manning took a break from not caring about her crappy web site…

And I found some of the Cobb Republican exec board hanging out as well. Guy with the name tag is Bob Koncerak, vice chair, and the woman with her back turned is their secretary. I daresay I’m an improvement over her in every way 😉

Not sure why I haven’t seen more of our metro friends (the real ones), but I did brush past Vincent Fort:

Of course, no evening would be complete without some mug shots from our lovable ruffians and scoundrels 😉 (they’re quite nice until Jim Beam gets involved, hee hee!)

7:45 P.M. Things look to be winding down here, so this will be the last update before I head to Manuel’s. No blog coverage of the supper would be complete without some meta-photos of the media filming the remains of the sacrificed animals…

Filming the remains for TV – tawdry, sensationalist. Taking a photograph of someone filming the remains for TV – journalism. Or something. In any case, I guess I should have eaten before taking photos, because by the time I got to the remains everything except the fat had carbonized into decidedly unappetizing crispy objects that might have worked as pork rinds.

I managed to find one legislator I actually knew, my own Doug Stoner, talking to one of his Republican counterparts. They were probably starting a pool on how long Glenn Richardson has before he gets ridden OTP on a rail…

I’m glad I ran into a good one, because that steeled me for the pain of seeing Representative Pumpkin herself dressed as Exhibit A in the DFI’s ongoing series “How To Perpetuate Your Legend As An Object of Fashion Ridicule”. She looks about like a Halloween pumpkin would look right about now, except with bizarre leopard spots. *sigh*

In another flip-side deal, I happened to see Coach Williams (good)…

…as well as Randall Mangham, of all fracking people (bad). Miss Angela declined to disclose whether she has political plans this year (or in 2010) or not; I guess we can expect something.

Donzella James and our Fulton friend Mike Schettino had a little chat. You can see Donzella is decked out in campaign regalia, so those of us who are not fans of one of the 22 Most Corrupt People in Congress can rest assured that we will at least have another choice on the ballot.

And last but certainly not least, I finally got the VIP of the event as I was sitting in the back room typing this up – Tommy looks like he just rolled in from the farm or something, but at least he made it.

I don’t know if I just missed the other constitutional officers or if they blew this off (maybe Michelle Obama gives them hives, I don’t know), but I didn’t see as many friendly faces as I would have thought. Oh well. Welcome to the 2008 session, y’all – sit back and enjoy the Glenn Richardson Sucks party!
