Not sure when y’all last called the Fulton County Jail was, but *my* last time was five seconds ago. All I wanted to do was find out whether the YD’s can apply for a raffle permit as provided by the Georgia code (a lot of folks running raffles might want to take a look, incidentally), and I called the wrong number because the web site gives you a choice between the courthouse and the jail without telling you which one houses the actual Sheriff’s Office. Aside from that little bit of user unfriendliness, I experienced a first in my life – when I dialed and pressed “0” for assistance (after listening to a long list of options), I got a wonderfully useful message that said “Extension 0 is in use. You may now dial another extension.” Gee, do they have more than one person at the jail to answer calls? Beats me.
The Sheriff’s web site prominently links to a story about the department winning the “Triple Crown Award” from the National Sheriff’s Association. Here’s a secret – that was awarded in 2003.
(Full disclosure: After that little bit of joy, I called the courthouse and got taken care of directly, so it wasn’t all fruitless. Maybe I’m just slow today.)
