If 99 people run for office in Minnesota and 98 get 1% and the 99th gets 2% that guy wins without a runoff.
OK, maybe that’s a little extreme, but they do not have a 50% requirement like we do. Someone will mostly likely win that race with about 42% of the vote, no runoff. Georgia and Louisiana are the only states with Senate races where a runoff could come into play, and Louisiana isn’t likely.

This is why I like the idea of instant runoff voting. You know those Buckley voters are peeved enough at Saxby that Jim would be their 2nd choice.

I think it’s possible to do both..We’d get all the “traditional” folks to come here and MN would get all the hipsters and new folks.
Plus, think of all the just off the campaingn trail nomads-I’d rather sleep in my car in GA than MN in Dec.. i”m just saying

Without the turnout incentive of voting for Obama, I think a runoff would be really tough for Martin to win in GA. Minnesota would have better natural dynamics for the runoff.

I think in a straight up comparison, Minnesota probably gets the nod, but when you take Max Cleland into account Georgia becomes a much more satisfying win. Hopefully, if we get to the point where both are in play we’ll be able to win both!

Minnesota=more favorable to Democrats.

I dunno. Minnesota is more stereotypically liberal but Franken will have to sway a lot of Ventura supporters his way to get the runoff. I’m not sure what the ideological leaning of that party is, so I can’t say how many will split to Franken and how many will go to Coleman. I guess Franken is closer to being a pro wrestler than Coleman, though…
Jim seems to have the much more straightforward task.

If both go up, I wonder where the priority would be.
