Roy was endorsed by the GA AFL-CIO in May. How did Galloway report it and only now am I finding out?
More endorsements will be announced shortly I understand.

You had me at ergo.
OK, let’s see if we can broker a little agreement here. Will y’all both grant me that:
1) Labor can, in the right circumstances, help put a candidate over the top.
2) That requires a lot of money spent on advertising, direct mail, and/or get out the vote efforts.
3) Labor has a smaller presence in Georgia than in many other states (like OH, NY, MA etc.) where it has made a bigger difference.
4) Labor rarely spends as much money in races down here as it does in those other states where it has more presence.
5) Plenty of candidates have gotten Democratic primary wins without the endorsement of labor. (Don’t make me pull up the examples.)
6) Ergo, while sometimes Labor endorsements, particularly when backed with money and manpower, can often be very effective for the candidates endorsed, it is also often the case that a Labor endorsement in Georgia has virtually no effect on a race at all.
7) Barnes is going to whup everyone’s ass anyway, with or without the endorsement of the AFL-CIO. At best, it may affect MoV.
There, see how much we can (or should be able to) agree on?
I should be like a mediator or somethin’.
Hee.
Speaking of Rand, why didn’t he run for Agriculture Comish again? He’s looking like a dream candidate compared to JB.
@Eric
Sigh… The first comment was tongue and cheek with a side of snark. You need to chillax.
But now that I actually have to think about this a little, I’m pretty sure I’m perfectly fine with what I wrote the first time. The AFL-CIO endorsement will be as much help to Barnes as it was to Rand. I’m not comparing the candidates, hell, Barnes doesn’t need the AFL-CIO endorsement for all the reasons you listed. I don’t think any sane person would believe what you are trying to project on me as saying.
I’m talking about what the AFL-CIO brings to the table, and larger than that, what any endorsement brings to the table. I think they are nice feathers in a candidates cap, but aside from very specific instances (like when they heavily invest with dollars, see: Bill Halter), they do very little to help a candidate (see: Rand Knights AFL-CIO endorsements).
Now if you are telling me that labor is investing 7 figures in this race for Roy, then I’ll have a different feeling about it. If it’s a sheet of paper and a mailer/flier or 2, then I won’t.
And just to poke you one more time, I find it funny that you say Rand received “no major endorsements” when he was in fact endorsed by AFL-CIO. You don’t get it to have it both ways.
Hey Tondee,
There’s a big difference btw a no name candidate like Knight who had no money, no name recognition, no major endorsements, and no record vs. Roy who has tons of all of those elements. Labor can’t win a race for you, but we sure as hell can help. BTW if you have doubts about Roy stomping his competition , I am taking bets (but i will feel bad about taking your money).
Dude. Seriously.
Yee of little faith… Pic appears to be..

Massimo D’Alema
Massimo D’Alema? Why oh why? There’s a connection to Barnes, how??
Well it worked just as well for one of our pals in that L. Frank Baum story, PT. And that’s about as much as we might ask for under the circumstances, mostly likely. JMP
Ed, it happened the same day as The Future is Blue, so you might have been distracted. I remember a few of us were talking about it that night.
I’m sorry, I must have misremembered the endorsement effectiveness of the AFL-CIO in ’08. Wrong analogy, but thanks for playing.
OK, who the hell is that pic from, and is it anymore obscure than the Jean Chrétien reference I left with Jim Galloway about Cong. Bob Etheridge (D-N.C.)? Just wondering…JMP
Analogy btw Rand Knight and Roy Barnes…EPIC…FAIL
My guess is that this endorsement will be as much help to Barnes as it was to Rand Knight. ZING!
