Place Your Bets

A day after talking to Jen about the lack of content in recent posts, I give you a post with no links… but is short, sweet, and to the point.

My observations are based on Cobb County, but most of these facts carry over to others.

Teachers will be taking 5 furlough days off the top, but with the latest RIF’s being based with a sizable portion on seniority and with junior and poor teachers with less of an opportunity to have a higher degree (less time to do it in, they require positive evals., poor desire/effort), there is a very real chance that the average teacher salary will increase from 09-10 to 10-11.

I’m placing the over/under on October 3rd before a Republican spouts out that teacher pay has gone up. Any takers?

Very tempting there Jason. And a few angles to consider. I’ll take over but just, and only if it occurs after a (main-line) debate. Sitting in Cobb & elsewhere when there’s literally many 100’s of newly unemployed bodies around? (Cobb has a surplus too??) That would be awfully short sighted. I’m not saying it can’t or won’t be done. Just that the blow back from such would be pretty substantial & ugly, so the timing literally has to be exquisite. Last minute mailing/ad type of deal territory though for sure. That would be my best guess.

And since you don’t have a link, I’ll provide one. On education meets the ‘BBC’. Ravitch goes rabid!
