I think it’s really hard to process everything that happened today in AZ.
The Congresswoman remains in critical condition, along with several others.
Here are two statements from her fellow Representatives in the House. As I understand it, she was very well liked and admired. She had many friends on the hill and this is an awful blow. People have been stopping by her Longworth office to console her staff and bring them food.
Representative John Lewis issued this:
This senseless act of violence against Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, federal judge John Roll, and 16 other people, including an innocent nine-year-old child, must be condemned by us all. There is not any room in our society for these acts of violence against our fellow citizens. The question we must ask as a people is not only who, but also what has created the atmosphere and climate that makes it almost impossible for us as Americans to reason together. I pray for my colleague Rep. Giffords and her family, for Judge Roll and his family and for all the victims who were injured and slain.”
Representative Hank Johnson issued this
LITHONIA, GA – “My heart is broken. I am deeply shocked and saddened,” said Johnson, who was elected to Congress with Giffords in 2006. “I am praying for Gabrielle, her family, staff and the other victims of this senseless act of violence.”
The President had this to say, and I’m sure tomorrows news will provide many more details.
