Macon City Council President Miriam Paris Announces Run for State Senate

(Macon, Ga) Macon City Council President Miriam Paris announced today her intention to run for the State Senate District 26 seat being vacated by Robert Brown. Surrounded by family and supporters, Paris promised to fight for hardworking families of middle Georgia by working to bring jobs to the region.

“As your next Senator, I will aggresively fight for new incentives for middle Georgia small businesses, which account for nearly two thirds of our work force. I will fight for any businesses moving into middle Georgia that hire local employees and put our hard working families back to work.”

Miriam Paris, a licensed REALTOR, was elected to serve on Macon’s City Council in a special election of Aug. 2006. In Aug 2007, she successfully sought the city wide seat for Ward IV, and ascended to Macon City Council President by a unamimous vote of her colleagues. She now serves as a member of the Board of Directors for: New Town Macon, Macon Chamber of Commerce, Community Partnership, Manna Ministries and Association of Informed and Dedicated Sisters (AIDS awareness org.). Other organizational affiliations include: Executive Committee– Macon-Bibb Roads Improvement, 11th Hour Editorial Board and the National Association of Realtors. Paris has been listed by the Georgia Informer as one of “Georgia’s 50 Most Influential Women” of 2008. Paris is a life-long resident of Bibb County and has raised her family in middle Georgia.
