Barr: Troy Davis merits clemency

Former Republican US Representative and US Attorney Bobb Barr on Troy Davis:

I am a longtime supporter of the death penalty. I make no judgment as to whether Davis is guilty or innocent. And surely the citizens of Savannah and the state of Georgia want justice served on behalf of Officer MacPhail.

But imposing an irreversible sentence of death on the skimpiest of evidence will not serve the interest of justice. By granting clemency, the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles will adhere to the most sacred principles of American jurisprudence, and will keep a man from being executed when we cannot be assured of his guilt.

Let’s all hope and pray that the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles does the right thing.

OK The action is on Friday 9/16, culminating at the Ebeneezer Baptist Church. This much I’ve gleaned from the Amnesty International site, drilling down on a few of the posts:
    http://blog.amnestyusa.org/deathpenalty/days-of-solidarity-with-troy-davis/

“The Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles will hold a clemency hearing for Troy Davis on Monday, September 19, two days before he is scheduled to be executed at 7 pm on September 21. During the days leading up to this hearing we should declare our Solidarity with Troy. Come to Atlanta for the big September 16 march and rally at Ebeneezer Baptist Church, or organize events in your own community for that day. Make the weekend of the 17th-18th a time for reflection or prayer: for the Davis family, for the MacPhail family, and for justice to prevail”.

Details left there as follows, but need to be confirmed, Please:
“Meet at Woodruff Park (downtown, near the MARTA Five Points Station) at 6 p.m., service at Ebenezer at 7 p.m”.

And hey, if this counts against my double secret probation? Put it on my permanent record too, as ‘one too many posts’ in a low post/comment week. JMP

Not the only notice from similar quarters recently, this from Forbes:

There’s also a march planned, but I was not getting the details quick enough, and can not find it again either. Heard on WRFG, natch’. But Amnesty is also involved, (AI). JMP
