In Case Anyone Cares…

icon_martini.jpgCasey Cagle sent me a letter regarding Sunday alcohol sales.

As a Georgian with strong religious beliefs, I oppose Sunday sales of alcohol for individual religious reasons. However, I recognize we live in a democracy where the wishes of the majority must be respected. For this reason, I have not opposed a referendum that will allow voters to choose whether or not to allow Sunday sales.

I think if anyone sees into the next couple election cycles it’s our Lt. Gov. he appears to have a pretty good grasp on his political future, first by hiring the staff from Sonny’s re-election campaign and punking stashy the day after the election in 2006, and then running a tight but not crazy ship since.

I’ll give him several snaps for the 2007 gun bill shutdown, and moderating the senate in a decent way, that being said it’s pretty sad that this is what gets you a “snap” from me. Not being crazy and petty is apparently our new standard for “good”.

Be that as it may, eventually the beer and wine folks will have had enough, and like the NRA make a stand, I predict by the next Gov race we will all be buying lick’r on Sunday.

County by county it will be passed, so no ones hands are dirty with it at a state level, but we’ll know from where it comes.

odin have we met before? Don’t get me wrong, while I like Casey I’ll never vote for him. Just that as a politician, he is pretty good. I think, in a sense, i’d rather have him at Lt Gov than Taylor or Martin because with Cagle he can affect the agenda. With MT or JM they can only fundraise for the party, not that that is a bad thing but their thoughts wouldn’t be given the light of day.

Regarding what costs people elections, they said the same thing about the lottery. Remember Andy Young’s stand? Replace sunday alcohol sales with lottery in Cagel’s statement above and you’ll have it.

I don’t think the above stance hurts him at all.

“As a Georgian with strong religious beliefs, I oppose Sunday sales of alcohol for individual religious reasons.”

I always wondered why religious beliefs interfered with the provision of something. If you don’t want it, DON’T BUY IT! For chrissakes.

But tell ya what, Casey. I’ll go without my alcohol if you force everything to shut down on Labor Day. I’m always a little sad to realize that I can still buy or eat just about anything on what is ostensibly a workers’ holiday.

And don’t worry, IRE, I almost think that Purdue is a decent governor at times, but I think that’s just the light off the ‘stache that is getting in my eyes.

no one who even talks of proposing sunday sales will become governor

Sure that is the conventional wisdom, but I think that is BS.
