Buckle Up!

Governor Perdue is expected to sign HB22 into law today, which would require adults in pick-up trucks to wear seat belts starting July 1st.  Bah.  If people want to ride around seat belt-less, be it in a car or truck, they should be free to do so.

In other driving law news, Perdue apparently said he might not sign the ban on texting while driving.  But, I don’t see any direct quotes to that effect, so take it with a grain of salt.

UPDATEHe signed it.

Along the same lines, you cannot have no trauma network and no seatbelt laws. You have to choose.

The ‘voluntary organ donors’ as ‘lidless’ bikers are known to the EMT’s & Trauma Docs really can’t pay enough on average to recoup the medical care likely to be expended, even for the short time to keep them alive for transport, stabilization & and/or transplant ready tests & procedures. It just never really adds up. And all this for want of a simple C-note or less for a helmet? Silly. Idiocy.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of retiring Ga.Leg. Sen. Dr. Don Thomas (R, Dalton) on this law too. And his yeoman’s anti-smoking efforts down through the years. Despite all the usual crazy seen & experienced though the years, he was right as rain on those issues. JMP

Jerry is right about insurance being a factor. We are all in the same insurance pool and if one person is riskier than other they can cost us all for their behavior or lack of judgement.

That’s not a bad idea. Although, the seat belt citation is $15 so it might be less than whatever the insurance company would charge you. And it’s easier to get away with as opposed to not wearing a helmet.

Maybe you should just pay extra insurance.
I’ve thought the same thing about no-helmet laws. Put a sticker on your bike showing that you pay 3x the insurance and leave the lid at home.
