AG’s Race – Republicans Turn

Ever since Preston “I hate the entire concept of public defenders” Smith jumped into the AG’s race, I’ve been tempted to pull a Republican ballot and vote for Sam “I’m not so bad” Olens.  But damn, now I have another very good reason – Max “holy fuck, I’m crazy” Wood.  This is what Wood recently had to say about Olens:

“One’s faith is more important than one’s legal analysis,” he added. “If he’s going to present himself as a person of faith, then he should be thinking about these issues as a person of faith, and not like a lawyer.”

And he’s wants to be the Attorney General of Georgia? More background here.

shift all the ridiculousness from the last week towards actual policy discussions

    That would be wonderful.

Here’s my main reservation about voting for Olens…if a Republican is elected governor this fall, and comes to the new AG on Jan 1 and asks him to take over GA’s lawsuit (currently handled by private firms) challenging the health care reform legislation, will he agree? That was the best thing Thurbert Baker did in my book, refusing to waste the state’s time and money on a dumb lawsuit. I want assurances that our next AG will not reverse course.

Which reminds me…sometime in the next week when I find time, I am going to write up a list of questions I’d love the AG candidates to answer. Lord knows they probably won’t, but at least we can try to shift all the ridiculousness from the last week towards actual policy discussions, and at the same time remind people why having a Dem AG does matter.
