RIP JMP

I just received the terrible and heartbreaking news that our friend, Dr. Joe Prince, best known to this blog as JMP, passed away this morning.

Joe has been a close friend of my organization, the Young Democrats of Georgia, as well as Georgia Democrats in general, for many years.  He has been a leader in the party, serving as Bartow County Chair for the Democratic Party for many years.

We’re going to miss Joe.

We never really got along but people always spoke highly of him and it seems like this was all very sudden. He will be missed.

Yes, I think he must have been the most frequent commenter, both in total number of comments (2,299) and word count (heaven only knows). He rarely wrote less than 5 or 6 paragraphs, in spite of occasionally being admonished to keep it short, which in hindsight seems petty.

His last comment was on 12/31/13

Rarely a day went by that he didn’t leave a comment or two or three, whether or not there were any new posts to discuss. We sometimes joked about closing this blog, but then wondered what JMP would do for entertainment.

Seriously though, I became quite fond of him over the years and always enjoyed seeing him at Democratic events. Like others have mentioned, I came to appreciate his generous spirit and kind heart. He will be missed.

He was one of the first people I met at a district meeting back in 2003 and I ran into him everywhere over the years. I will miss him!

This is simply terrible news. Joe was a brilliant and shining example of all that is good in this world. He will be very, very missed.

Very sad to hear this news. Joe was a one of a kind guy, that’s for sure… but he was a genuine and honest guy… and I will miss our conversations about the body farm at the University of Tennessee… not a lot of people I can have good discussions with on that particular topic.

While I lived in Cobb County, my house was about 1/10th of a mile away from the Bartow County border where Joe served as Chair for so many years… so we always had fun joking about the forgotten part of Cobb County that most people think isn’t Cobb County.

He was always a huge supporter of the Young Democrats of Georgia and when I was at the DPG I could always count on Joe to give me a smile and a pat on the back… even in tough times, Joe was there with a smile.

Always sad to hear of someone’s passing… rest in peace, Joe.

Oh this truly terrible news. Joe was a fellow Jerseyite, we meet back in 2004 on a message board, then in person at a Kerry event. I believe he had a radio show in those days.

He was a stalwart Progressive, loyal Democrat and avid reader who shared the often forgotten or overlooked articles with all of us here in the comments. I believe he is our comment record holder.

Rest in Peace Joe, except I know you won’t.. you’ll be barreling into the dearly departed Democrats caucus and chiming in with Herb Butler.

Taken too soon, taken too soon.
